Deliverable: The mailbox exists, the SMTP probe received a positive response, and no intelligence signals (spam trap, disposable, etc.) flagged the address. These are safe to send to. Confidence score typically 75-100.

Risky: The address exists but has signals that increase the risk of bouncing or causing a spam complaint. This includes: catch-all domains (we can't confirm the specific mailbox), disposable/temporary domains, role addresses (info@, admin@), addresses with low ML confidence scores. Undeliverable: The SMTP server returned a permanent rejection (5xx) for this address, the domain has no MX records, or the address was flagged as a known spam trap. Remove from all lists immediately. Sending to undeliverable addresses generates hard bounces.

Unknown: The verification probe timed out or received an ambiguous response (greylisting, rate limiting). BounceZero retries automatically - unknowns in your result file are addresses where retries didn't resolve to a definitive verdict. Deliverable > Send: Add to your active send segment. These addresses passed all checks.

Risky > Segment, don't delete: Risky addresses fall into subcategories:

  • *Disposable emails*: Delete. These are temporary addresses that stop working within hours to days.
