Why Live.nl looks like this

The Dutch regional Outlook brand. Microsoft answers clearly, so unknowns are rare, and a third of addresses are confirmed invalid because the regional domain is no longer issued to new users and old accounts have been recycled.

Microsoft issued live.nl to Dutch users during the Windows Live era and stopped creating new accounts on the regional domain when Outlook.com launched. Existing accounts kept working but dormant ones were recycled. On Dutch B2B lists the address marks sole traders and small shops. The Netherlands enforces the EU rules through the Telecommunications Act, with an opt-in requirement for individuals and a legitimate-interest route for companies.

Where Live.nl sits among providers

On confirmed-invalid rate, Live.nl ranks 6 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind Telefónica at 42.8%, ahead of Netcom at 32.0%.

On unknown rate, Live.nl ranks 25 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind Optimum at 0.8%, ahead of Windstream at 0.1%.

On confirmed-valid share, Live.nl ranks 5 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind Alice (TIM) at 64.7%, ahead of TPG at 53.9%.

How to read these rates: they are BounceZero's probe outcomes on customer lists over April to October 2026, not a census of Live.nl mailboxes. Unknown and catch-all measure what verification could not confirm, which depends on the provider's gateway policy during the window as much as on the addresses. The lists are the ones customers chose to upload, so segments dominated by a few large uploads carry their age and source. Method and limitations: benchmarks page.

Reading each result on Live.nl

Unknown

Unknown is a rounding error on Live.nl at 0.7%; the gateway gives a clear answer and the verdict stands.

Invalid

32.8% confirmed invalid is far above the 14.5% business average. A list with many Live.nl addresses was compiled a long time ago.

Catch-all

Catch-all is negligible on Live.nl (0.0%); when this provider does return valid, the mailbox accepted the probe itself rather than a blanket accept.

Confirmed valid

Just over 57% confirmed valid: reachable today, re-verified before every send, since only 19.2% of addresses were still valid 90 days after a check in BounceZero's decay study.

Live.nl in practice: routing and re-checks

Trust the result. Expect a third of live.nl contacts to drop on first verification; the remainder are stable and reachable.

Role addresses such as info@ and sales@ make up 0.0% of Live.nl addresses in the corpus. Role addresses are rare here, as expected for a mailbox provider.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of Live.nl email addresses are invalid?
