iCloud Mail: verification results against the benchmarks

The iCloud Mail row is all 50,895 addresses verified in the six months to October 2026; the other rows are the benchmarks from the same corpus. Risky and role results fill each row to 100%.

Non-freemail includes consumer ISP mailboxes; a business-only cut is on the benchmarks page. Method and every other cut: Lead List Quality Benchmarks 2026. Risky and role on the iCloud Mail row: 2.0%.

Why iCloud Mail looks like this

Apple answers probes clearly and the confirmed-invalid share is very high, close to three in four. Two things drive it: iCloud addresses on B2B lists are often typed from memory or scraped from app-store style records, and Apple's Hide My Email feature produces throwaway relay addresses that stop working when the user disables them.

Apple issues iCloud addresses with every Apple ID, which makes them common on consumer and app-derived lists. Apple also offers Hide My Email, which creates disposable relay addresses that stop working when the user turns them off, and those relays are indistinguishable from real iCloud addresses until they bounce. Apple's mail servers answer probes clearly, so the invalid verdicts are reliable and the segment can be cleaned in one pass.

Where iCloud Mail sits among providers

On confirmed-invalid rate, iCloud Mail ranks 3 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind Hotmail Australia at 92.7%, ahead of Windstream at 49.6%.

On unknown rate, iCloud Mail ranks 20 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind TPG at 5.1%, ahead of Xtra (Spark) at 3.4%.

On confirmed-valid share, iCloud Mail ranks 14 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind Netcom at 29.1%, ahead of iiNet at 18.9%.

How to read these rates: they are BounceZero's probe outcomes on customer lists over April to October 2026, not a census of iCloud Mail mailboxes. Unknown and catch-all measure what verification could not confirm, which depends on the provider's gateway policy during the window as much as on the addresses. The lists are the ones customers chose to upload, so segments dominated by a few large uploads carry their age and source. Method and limitations: benchmarks page.

Reading each result on iCloud Mail

Unknown

Unknown results are rare on iCloud Mail: the gateway answers probes clearly, so a result you get is a result you can act on.

Invalid

73.0% confirmed invalid is far above the 14.5% business average. A list with many iCloud Mail addresses was compiled a long time ago.

Catch-all

Catch-all is negligible on iCloud Mail (0.0%); when this provider does return valid, the mailbox accepted the probe itself rather than a blanket accept.

Confirmed valid

Only 20.0% of iCloud Mail addresses confirmed as live mailboxes. Those few go to the primary sequence; the segment as a whole is not a cold-email segment.

Handling the iCloud Mail segment

Verify every iCloud address before it enters a sequence; the majority will not survive. Do not use an iCloud-heavy segment to judge a list vendor, but do treat it as a warning that the source was consumer data.

Role addresses such as info@ and sales@ make up 0.0% of iCloud Mail addresses in the corpus. Role addresses are rare here, as expected for a mailbox provider.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of iCloud Mail email addresses are invalid?

73.0% of 50,895 iCloud Mail addresses verified by BounceZero between April and October 2026 were confirmed invalid, against 14.5% across non-freemail domains and 17.6% across freemail.

How many iCloud Mail addresses return unknown, and what does that mean?

4.9%. Unknown means the mailbox could not be confirmed either way, usually because the gateway deferred the probe. BounceZero refunds unknown results; on iCloud Mail it is rare enough to re-check once and move on.

Is iCloud Mail a catch-all domain?

Not in practice: 0.0% of iCloud Mail addresses returned catch-all, so a valid verdict means the mailbox exists.

What share of iCloud Mail addresses are safe to email?

20.0% confirmed valid at verification time. Keep bounces under 2% and complaints under 0.3% on the send, and re-verify the segment before every send.
