Yahoo Mail Addresses on Lead Lists
39.0% Unknown: What the 2026 Benchmark Says

Yahoo Mail is a Freemail (Yahoo). Across 21,081 Yahoo Mail addresses verified by BounceZero between April and October 2026, 8.2% were invalid, 27.7% catch-all, 39.0% unknown and 16.4% confirmed valid. Unknown dominates because the gateway defers probes.

Yahoo Mail: verification results against the benchmarks

Every Yahoo Mail address BounceZero verified for customers between April and October 2026, beside the corpus benchmarks. The remainder of each row to 100% is risky and role results.

Why Yahoo Mail looks like this

Yahoo throttles verification probes and runs a catch-all style accept for a large share of its mailboxes, so the result mix is dominated by catch-all and unknown. Confirmed invalid is under one in ten; confirmed valid is about one in six. This is the hardest major freemail provider to verify.

Yahoo Mail remains one of the largest freemail providers worldwide and the platform behind AOL, AT&T and several ISP brands. Its gateway throttles probes and accepts many addresses without confirming them, so verification returns catch-all or unknown for most of the segment. Yahoo publishes sender requirements aligned with Google's, including a 0.3 percent complaint threshold, and it is quick to filter new senders. A Yahoo-heavy list should be sent to at low volume from a warmed domain and judged on bounces.

Where Yahoo Mail sits among providers

On confirmed-invalid rate, Yahoo Mail ranks 18 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind AT&T at 10.1%, ahead of BigPond (Telstra) at 8.0%.

On unknown rate, Yahoo Mail ranks 9 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind T-Online at 41.2%, ahead of SBCGlobal at 36.3%.

On confirmed-valid share, Yahoo Mail ranks 17 of 29 providers in the corpus, just behind SBCGlobal at 18.0%, ahead of T-Online at 16.4%.

How to read these rates: they are BounceZero's probe outcomes on customer lists over April to October 2026, not a census of Yahoo Mail mailboxes. Unknown and catch-all measure what verification could not confirm, which depends on the provider's gateway policy during the window as much as on the addresses. The lists are the ones customers chose to upload, so segments dominated by a few large uploads carry their age and source. Method and limitations: benchmarks page.

Reading each result on Yahoo Mail

Unknown

39.0% unknown is the story of Yahoo Mail: the gateway defers probes, and the mailboxes behind them can only be tested by a careful send.

Invalid

Confirmed invalid is low at 8.2%, better than the business-list average of 14.5%.

Catch-all

Catch-all is the defining trait here: 27.7% of Yahoo Mail addresses accept anything, so finder guesses look valid and bounce later. Hold them out of cold sequences entirely.

Confirmed valid

Confirmed valid is 16.4%. Send to that slice from the primary domain and treat the rest of the Yahoo Mail segment as unreachable by cold email.

Yahoo Mail in practice: routing and re-checks

Catch-all and unknown Yahoo addresses cannot be confirmed; they can only be tested by sending. Keep them out of cold sequences on your main domain, send to them at low volume from a secondary domain, and keep Yahoo's complaint threshold of 0.3 percent in view.

Role addresses such as info@ and sales@ make up 0.0% of Yahoo Mail addresses in the corpus. Role addresses are rare here, as expected for a mailbox provider.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage of Yahoo Mail email addresses are invalid?

8.2% of 21,081 Yahoo Mail addresses verified by BounceZero between April and October 2026 were confirmed invalid, against 14.5% across non-freemail domains and 17.6% across freemail.

How many Yahoo Mail addresses return unknown, and what does that mean?

39.0%. Unknown means the mailbox could not be confirmed either way, usually because the gateway deferred the probe. BounceZero refunds unknown results; re-check after a week or use a second channel.

Is Yahoo Mail a catch-all domain?

Partly: 27.7% of Yahoo Mail addresses sat behind a catch-all accept, so the server took any address and the mailbox could not be confirmed.

What share of Yahoo Mail addresses are safe to email?

16.4% confirmed valid at verification time. Keep bounces under 2% and complaints under 0.3% on the send, and re-verify the segment before every send.
