What Is an Email Finder?

An email finder is a tool that returns a probable work email address for a named person at a company, either by looking the person up in a database of previously seen addresses or by learning the company's address pattern and applying it to the name. Finders report a find rate (how often they return something) and an accuracy (how often it is right); the leading tools return a deliverable address 65 to 85% of the time, which means 10 to 25% of what they return bounces unless verified first.

How it is measured and used

Find rate and accuracy are independent. A waterfall tool can return something for 90% of names and be wrong for a quarter of them. Accuracy is measured by verifying the output at export time, which is also when the "verified" badge a finder shows stops meaning much: it records when the finder last checked, not whether the mailbox exists today.

The email finder guide compares Apollo, Hunter, FindyMail, Clay, Snov and RocketReach on both figures and sets out the verify-before-send workflow.

Example with numbers

A finder returns 500 addresses for a Sales Navigator export. Verification confirms 390, flags 25 catch-all and 30 unknown, and rejects 55 invalid, an 11% invalid rate at the good end of the range. The 55 would have taken a fresh sending domain past the 2% bounce line on the first day.
