Lead routing is the set of rules that assigns each new lead to an owner, a team, a sequence or a channel: by territory, company size, industry, score, language, and, in well-run systems, by verification result. Confirmed-valid addresses route to email sequences; catch-all and unknown route to phone, LinkedIn or low-volume warm sequences; invalid is held for re-check. The speed target for hot inbound leads is under five minutes to first human touch.
Routing is measured by time from creation to assignment, by assignment accuracy (how often a lead is re-routed), and by the share of leads that reach a working channel on the first attempt. That last metric is where verification shows up: routing a dead address to an email sequence is an assignment error the rules could have prevented.
The sales leads guide sets out the verify, qualify, route, re-verify loop, with the routing table by verification result.
A CRM routes 1,000 new leads a month. With verification result as a routing input, 720 go to email sequences, 140 to a LinkedIn-first cadence, 140 are held. Before the rule, all 1,000 went to email and 140 bounced each month, which was enough to throttle one of the two sending domains every quarter.
