Conversion rate is the share of people or records that move from one stage to the next: visitors who become leads, leads who become qualified, qualified leads who become customers, or emails that produce a reply. Each stage has its own range; in B2B, marketing qualified leads convert to customers at 1 to 5%, sales qualified at 15 to 30%, product qualified at 20 to 40%. A rate is only meaningful if the denominator counts records that could convert; unreachable leads in the denominator understate every downstream rate.
Rates are measured per stage, per source and per period, from the CRM or analytics. The common error is mixing denominators: a reply rate computed on sent emails rather than delivered emails, or a lead-to-customer rate computed on rows rather than reachable leads.
Form conversion is the stage where validation has a direct effect. Rejecting a typo at submission raises the confirmed-signup rate without changing traffic, because the visitor corrects the address instead of leaving with a confirmation email that never arrives.
A funnel reports 10,000 visitors, 400 signups, 300 confirmed, 60 paying: 4% visitor to signup, 75% confirmed, 20% confirmed to paid. After form validation and earlier reminders, confirmation rises to 82% and paid to 66 on the same traffic, a 10% lift in customers from fixing one stage.
