What Is Reply Rate?

Reply rate is the share of delivered emails in a campaign that received a reply, counted per campaign or per sequence step. Total reply rate includes negatives and out-of-office; positive reply rate counts only interested responses and is the number that predicts meetings. Cold email reply rates run 2 to 10% depending on list fit and personalisation, with positive replies a third to a half of that. The denominator is delivered, not sent; an unverified list that bounces 15% understates the rate by the same share.

How it is measured and used

Sequencers report replies per step and per campaign. Replies cluster on steps two to four. Rates should be read alongside bounce and complaint rates, since a throttled domain delivers fewer emails and the reply rate on those that land is not representative.

The prospecting techniques page gives reply-rate ranges by channel and technique, labelled as industry ranges rather than guarantees.

Example with numbers

A campaign sends 3,000 emails. Unverified: 2,580 delivered, 130 replies, which the platform reports as 4.3% of sent and 5.0% of delivered. Verified first: 2,900 delivered, 150 replies, 5.2%. The underlying copy performed the same; the verified version reached 320 more people and kept the domain out of trouble.
