Firmographics are the descriptive attributes of a company: industry, employee count, revenue band, headquarters location, founding year, ownership type and growth stage. They are the company-level equivalent of demographics and the raw material of an ideal customer profile. Most come from enrichment providers rather than the lead, and they decay slowly, over about a year, compared with the contact email, which decays at the rate measured in BounceZero's decay study (only 19.2% of addresses still valid 90 days after a check).
Firmographics are matched by domain. An enrichment call takes the company domain and returns the attributes from the provider's store, with a confidence score and a last-updated date. Employee counts are the least reliable attribute, since providers estimate them from LinkedIn headcounts that lag reality.
In scoring, firmographics drive the fit component, typically 40% of the score. In prospecting, they are the filters. In data quality, the headquarters country is the firmographic that matters most, because it predicts the bounce and unknown rates a list will show; see the country cuts in the lead list quality benchmarks.
A list of 5,000 companies is enriched. 4,300 match on domain; 700 return nothing, mostly small firms and recent startups. Of the matched, 1,900 fall in the 10 to 200 employee band the ICP wants. Contacts are then found and verified only for those 1,900, cutting finder spend by 62% before any address is checked.
