BANT is a lead qualification framework built on four questions: does the prospect have Budget for the purchase, the Authority to make it, a Need the product solves, and a Timing that makes it current. A lead that passes all four is sales qualified. It dates from IBM's sales methodology and remains the most used framework for transactional B2B deals because it is quick; it works less well where buying committees of six or more people decide, since no single contact holds all four answers.
Each letter is a yes or no, sometimes with a confidence score. Teams often require three of four to qualify, with Need as the mandatory one. Budget is the question most often answered late, so modern variants ask about the cost of the problem rather than the budget for the solution.
BANT assumes the person answering can be reached and is the right person. Both assumptions are checked outside the framework: reachability by verification before the first touch, authority by title and org data. See the comparison with MEDDIC and CHAMP in the qualification guide.
A marketing manager at a 60-person agency replies to a cold email about bounce rates. Need: yes, their domain was throttled last month. Timing: yes, a campaign is due in three weeks. Budget: the Growth pack at $15 is below any approval threshold. Authority: she owns the sending domain. Four of four; the lead moves to a demo the same week.
Verify a list or a single address. 100 free checks a month, unknowns refunded.
