MEDDIC is a qualification framework for complex, multi-stakeholder sales, built on six elements: Metrics the buyer will use to judge success, the Economic buyer who controls the money, the Decision criteria, the Decision process, the Identified pain, and a Champion inside the account who sells on your behalf. It suits deals above roughly $25,000 a year with buying committees; below that, its overhead exceeds its value and BANT or CHAMP is quicker.
Each element is scored on evidence, not opinion: a named economic buyer, a written decision process, a metric with a number. Deals missing two or more elements are forecast at a lower probability. The champion is the element that most often fails, usually because they change jobs mid-cycle.
That last failure is a data problem. B2B addresses decay at the rate measured in BounceZero's decay study (only 19.2% of addresses still valid 90 days after a check); in a nine-month enterprise cycle, one in six champion addresses goes dead. Re-verifying the key contacts on open opportunities each quarter catches the move early and turns it into a trigger event at the champion's new company.
A 2,000-seat company evaluates list hygiene tooling. Metric: bounce rate under 2% across 40 sending domains. Economic buyer: VP marketing operations. Criteria: catch-all detection, API, GDPR processing terms. Process: security review then procurement. Pain: two domains throttled in Q2. Champion: the deliverability lead. All six documented; the deal is forecast at 60%.
