What Is Account-Based Marketing (ABM)?

Account-based marketing is a strategy that picks a named list of target accounts and treats each as a market of one: the buying committee is mapped, every person on it gets coordinated, personalised touches across email, ads, social and events, and success is measured per account rather than per lead. Programmes run in tiers, from a handful of one-to-one accounts to a few hundred one-to-many. Because volume is low and personalisation high, each contact is expensive; a buying committee of six to ten people with two dead addresses is a committee you cannot reach.

How it is measured and used

ABM is measured by account engagement (how many committee members have interacted), pipeline created per account, and win rate on target accounts versus the rest. Contact coverage, the share of the mapped committee with a working channel, is the data metric that predicts the others.

Contact mapping relies on finders and databases, which return 10 to 25% invalid addresses. At ABM volumes the fix is cheap: verifying 2,000 committee members costs a Starter pack, and the result tells you which members need a phone or social route.

Example with numbers

A programme targets 120 accounts with an average committee of seven, 840 contacts. Finder output verified: 610 valid, 60 catch-all, 95 unknown, 75 invalid. The 75 are re-found through other sources; the 155 flagged go to LinkedIn and ads. Coverage reaches 91% of the mapped committee before the first touch.
